Raimonds Vējonis
Since restoration of diplomatic relations between Latvia and France 25 years ago, France has become an important partner for Latvia. The two countries share both close cooperation in security and economic ties and successful cooperation in the European Union, NATO, and the OECD, as President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis highlighted during accreditation of new Ambassador of France Odile Soupison in the Riga Castle today.

The President of Latvia and the French Ambassador discussed the centenary celebrations of Latvia in 2018. He expressed gratitude for the support and engagement of the Embassy of France in promotion and execution of exhibition “Era of Symbolism in the Baltics”, which the three Baltic States will jointly open in Paris in 2018.

During the meeting with Ambassador of Sri Lanka Renuka Damayanthie Rajapakse, the President of Latvia underlined that this year marked 20 years since establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Because Latvia commenced more active cooperation with the South Asian region, we intend to develop closer cooperation with Sri Lanka as well.

During the accreditation visit of Ambassador of Australia Jonathan Charles Kenna, the President of Latvia said that Latvia and Australia were like-minded countries with a great potential for development of bilateral relations. Latvia intended a more active cooperation in economics, education, and collaboration at an international level.
