On 10 December, President Edgars Rinkēvičs paid a working visit to Ogre municipality. During the working visit, the President of Latvia met with the leadership of the Ogre Municipality Council, visited Ogre Central Library and Ogre State Gymnasium, where he met with 12th grade students.
"It is encouraging to see that young people in Ogre municipality have access to quality and modern education. For example, Ogre State Gymnasium, which is the only school in Ogre for students in grades 10-12, has one of the most modern school buildings in Latvia and even in the Baltic states. The school provides an ideal environment for students to develop and express their personalities in a variety of ways, including through research, creative and social activities, sports and socialising with their peers. At the same time, contemporary learning and school environment also requires investment in modern teaching staff, classroom and school management solutions and learning support teams. In a sense, this is a marathon challenge for school and municipal leaders. I commend the municipality for its commitment to strengthening other schools in the region, ensuring that every child and young person has access to a quality education closer to home. Therefore, I wish to look for the most forward-thinking solutions, to hear young people and parents, and achieve the engagement and ownership of the residents for such changes," said President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
During the visit, the President of Latvia got acquainted with the Ogre municipality social enterprise "Ogres Zelta liepa" and one of the leading manufacturers of electronic systems and their components in the Northern European region, the electronic company "HansaMatrix" JSC in Parogre. The President of Latvia was also introduced to the operations of the spruce tree nursery "Paegles egles" Ltd. in Tome parish. The 13-hectare nursery is currently cultivating 35,000 Christmas trees of various species and over 250 ornamental seedlings of different species and varieties. President Rinkēvičs also visited the gingerbread studio in Ķeipene.
