On 17 May, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Head of State of the Sovereign Order of Malta, His Eminence the Prince and Grand Master Fra' John Dunlap, in Rome to discuss bilateral relations between Latvia and the Order of Malta, support to Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.
The President of Latvia welcomed the contribution of the Order of Malta to the provision of humanitarian, social and medical assistance worldwide and reiterated his gratitude for the support that Latvia and the most vulnerable segments of Latvian society received during the politically and socially challenging years of the restoration of the independence of Latvia. "The Order of Malta's mission is highly regarded throughout the globe. Especially at a time when the world is experiencing attacks on civilians and democracy," said E. Rinkēvičs.
The President of Latvia expressed gratitude to the Order of Malta for its assistance to the Ukrainian people, both within Ukraine and beyond its borders. He further emphasized the importance of maintaining all forms of support to Ukraine. E. Rinkēvičs also stressed the need to promote diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in the Middle East and to prevent civilian suffering.
