Valsts prezidents novērtē Slovākijas ieguldījumu Baltijas reģiona drošības stiprināšanā
On 31 January, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčák in the Riga Castle to discuss the bilateral relations between the two countries and current geopolitical, European Union (EU) and NATO priorities.

Egils Levits thanked Minister Lajčák for Slovakia’s support in strengthening the security of Baltic region, and in scope of NATO enhanced Forward presence Battle Group Latvia in particular.

President of Latvia and Foreign Affairs Minister of Slovakia both noted fruitful bilateral relations and underlined that Latvia and Slovakia are like-minded and close partners in the European Union and NATO.

Meeting also focused on regional security in EU, EU’s Eastern Partnership, geopolitical priorities and challenges. Egils Levits and Miroslav Lajčák discussed the World Economic Forum in Davos, the forthcoming Munich Security Conference and overall member state cooperation within the EU.

In conclusion, Minister Lajčák invited President and Prime Minister of Latvia to find an opportunity to visit the Republic of Slovakia in 2020.
