Valsts prezidents: Nākotnē enerģētikas drošības pamatā būs energoefektivitāte, pieaugoša atjaunojamās enerģijas izmantošana un patērētāju izglītošana
“In the future, energy security will be less linked to the creation of new infrastructure. It will be based on energy efficiency, increased use of renewables, and raising awareness of consumers. Close cooperation between policymakers and energy companies must be established aimed at developing innovation and new technologies,” emphasised President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis

at the opening of the third Energy Security Forum in Monaco on Friday, 1 June 2018.

The President of Latvia pointed out that energy developments in Europe during past decades have confirmed a close link between energy policy and geopolitics. Energy supply is used to exert pressure on individual countries and to strengthen dominance in the region, as well as to test EU solidarity. Being aware of that, enhancing the EU Energy Union and its principles as well as continued active work on diversifying energy supplies in Europe are essential.

“Energy security is and will remain a priority for Latvia and for the EU as a whole. It is crucial to continue striving for diversification of energy supply and integration of the Baltic States into European energy infrastructure networks,” stated President of Latvia addressing the participants of the Energy Security Forum in Monaco.
