Raimonds Vējonis
“Kazakhstan is one of our major partners for the successful integration of Latvia into Eurasian land transport and the creation of an efficient transport corridor on the Eurasian continent,” outlined President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during his meeting with the First Deputy of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Mr Askar Mamin on Friday, September 29.

“I am convinced that Latvia's participation in the international exhibition Astana Expo 2017 has given our countries an additional opportunity to develop bilateral political and economic cooperation,” stated Raimonds Vējonis. The President of Latvia expressed his satisfaction that the cooperation between the two countries provided practical outputs after his meeting with the officials of Kazakhstan in Astana in July this year, as the container train was launched on the route China (Urumqi) – Kazakhstan – Russia – Latvia (Riga). The new route will continue by sea to the Netherlands (Rotterdam).

The President of Latvia noted that Latvia was interested in developing direct air traffic with Kazakhstan, which would enable the activation of mutual contacts in business, tourism, and other areas. There is considerable potential for bilateral cooperation in education, information and communication technologies, and ecologic and green technologies.
