From 23 to 26 September, President Edgars Rinkēvičs held bilateral meetings with leaders of 13 countries on the margins of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the meetings, President Rinkēvičs discussed bilateral relations, cooperation in international organisations, support for Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, as well as support for Latvia's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2026-2027.
President of Latvia placed particular emphasis on the deepening of economic cooperation, underscoring Latvia's potential in the field of artificial intelligence and development of communication technologies. At the same time, E. Rinkēvičs confirmed Latvia's support for proactive measures to address the effects of climate change.
In addition, during the UN General Assembly, President of Latvia, together with President of Estonia, Alar Karis, and President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, met with President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, to discuss regional security and support for Ukraine. The Presidents agreed on the need to continue to support Ukraine until its victory over the aggressor.
