On 18 September, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, considered clemency appeals of 18 convicted persons.
President of Latvia declined 17 clemency appeals and granted pardon to one convicted person. When clemency is granted, person convicted of offences against public security and order is fully pardoned and can no longer be held liable for the committed offence.
It was the first time President Levits’ exercised his clemency power since becoming President of Latvia.
