On 3 January, President Edgars Rinkēvičs on the initiative of the Latvian Hotels and Restaurants Association met with its representatives Andris Kalniņš and Ēriks Lingebērziņš in the Riga Castle. During the meeting, the current situation and challenges in the hospitality sector were discussed.
"Country's image is a key issue for Latvia's tourism industry. It is closely linked to the thoughtful, targeted and permanent allocation of funding for tourism marketing. The hospitality sector helps to promote the export performance of our country and strengthen the competitiveness of Latvian tourism among other Baltic countries," said President Rinkēvičs after the meeting.
Representatives of the Association gave their views on the current problems of the hospitality sector in Latvia, including the weakened financial situation and the loss of employees in the sector as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the rapid increase in costs and the decline in the flow of foreign visitors.
