Kanādas premjerministrs Džastins Trudo un Valsts prezidents Egils Levits

Today, President of Latvia Egils Levits welcomed the Prime Minister of Canada, Mr Justin Trudeau, to the Riga Castle. President Levits underlined the importance of strengthening NATO’s eastern flank and joint support provided by both countries to Ukraine.

President of Latvia thanked Canada for playing significant role in strengthening NATO’s eastern flank, Canada’s leadership in the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group Latvia and deployment of Canadian troops to Latvia in particular. Meeting, which was also attended by defence ministers on both sides, focused on further strengthening of NATO’s regional presence.

As regards to invasion of Ukraine by Putin’s regime, both officials agreed that political, economic and military support to Ukraine must be continued. Justin Trudeau and Egils Levits both underlined that support to Ukraine and its territorial integrity must remain high on the international agenda.

Misinformation was another key issue discussed during the meeting. Latvia is among the countries who joined the Statement of the Freedom Online Coalition on disinformation in Ukraine released by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly on 2 March.
