On 15 April, President Edgars Rinkēvičs paid a working visit to the state city of Daugavpils. During his visit, the President met with the deputies of the Daugavpils City Council, heads of educational institutions, and the management of Daugavpils University. The President of Latvia also visited the Daugavpils Science High School to learn about the educational process and discuss with school students the role of education in the development of the Latgale region and the significance of the 20th anniversary of Latvia's accession to NATO and the European Union.
"Daugavpils is Latvia. Latgale is Latvia. It has been, continues to be, and always will be. We are united by the Constitution, the state language, the independence of our country and the well-being of our society. These values are a unifying force for our nation, rather than a source of division. There is no doubt that there are many challenges and problems to be addressed at the city, regional and national levels, but it is crucial to uphold the people's desire to live and develop in the second largest city of Latvia," said President Edgars Rinkēvičs during his visit to Daugavpils.
During his visit, President E. Rinkēvičs also met with the management and staff of the “Daugavpils Psychoneurological Hospital” State Ltd to learn about their work in the hospital's wards. He also visited the production site of "Daugavpils dzelzsbetons" Ltd, which is a local capital company that is a significant employer in the region.
As part of his working visit, the President of Latvia laid flowers at the memorial site of the Polish soldiers who lost their lives in the Latvian Freedom Fights and visited the exhibitions at the Rothko Museum.
At the end of the visit, the President of Latvia met and listened to issues raised by the residents of Daugavpils.
