On 7 February, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Commander of the National Armed Forces, Major General Kaspars Pudāns, at the Riga Castle. This was the first bilateral meeting between the two officials since Major General Pudāns assumed his duties as Commander of the National Armed Forces.
"Recognising that Russia poses a long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security, our primary objective must be the development of the National Armed Forces and their capabilities to ensure effective deterrence and defence, as well as readiness to apply these forces and capabilities and anticipate future challenges," said President Rinkēvičs during his conversation with the Commander of the National Armed Forces.
President Rinkēvičs also underscored the significance of the National Armed Forces' reputation in society, highlighting that effective communication and public awareness are crucial in strengthening societal engagement in national security and defence.
