Raimonds Vējonis
On Saturday, July 9, during his meeting with President of Poland Andrzej Duda, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis noted close cooperation and excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, which enabled development of wide range of political and economic cooperation between Latvia and Poland, as well as to strengthen cooperation in the area of security and defence.

 

Raimonds Vējonis thanked the President of Poland for organization of the NATO Summit at the time of great importance for the Baltic Sea Region and entire Alliance. President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis noted with satisfaction the significant contribution of Poland in strengthening security of the Baltic States and called for continuation of the close bilateral cooperation.

 

The President of Latvia emphasized regular and active participation of Poland in the NATO air-policing mission in the Baltic States, as well as in military exercises, and contribution in establishment of the NATO Strategic Communication Centre of Excellence in Riga in particular.

 

The officials agreed to exchange state visits in 2018, with further strengthening of the friendly relations between Poland and Latvia.

 

President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis participated in NATO Summit for Heads of State and Heads of Government in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, on July 8 and 9. During the meeting, important decisions on strengthening defensibility of the Alliance, including strengthening the presence of the NATO forces in the Member States on NATO Eastern flank, and decisions on NATO’s role and further action regarding fight against terrorism, control of illegal migration, closer cooperation between NATO and the European Union, the NATO mission in Afghanistan, and support to Ukraine and Georgia would be made.
