On 19 January, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the President of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš at the Riga Castle. During the meeting, the parties discussed the international cooperation of the Constitutional Court, current developments in case law, as well as issues related to strengthening the independence of the judiciary.
During the conversation, the President of the Constitutional Court briefed E. Rinkēvičs about the Council of Europe project implemented by the Constitutional Court, which grants support to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and provides a significant contribution towards Ukraine's integration into the European Union.
During the meeting, the President of Latvia expressed the view that the involvement of the Constitutional Court in the legal evaluation and analysis of ongoing processes in Latvia contributes to fostering to a coherent and effective legislative process. President Rinkēvičs also commended the active cooperation of the Constitutional Court with the constitutional courts of other countries to strengthen the rule-based international order and the rule of law.
