On 14 February, President Edgars Rinkēvičs, congratulated Vilis Vītols on his 90th birthday at the Riga Castle. Vilis Vītols is the recipient of the Statehood Award and the founder and patron of the Vītols Fund.
During the meeting, the President of Latvia expressed his gratitude to V. Vītols for his selfless and outstanding charitable work and contribution to Latvia.
Vilis Vītols was born on 14 February 1934 in Riga and spent most of his life in Venezuela. He returned to Latvia on 23 March 1999. V. Vītols was awarded the Order of the Three Stars (IV Class). On August 21, 2023 he was presented the Statehood Award established by the association 4 May Declaration Club.
In 2002, Vilis and Marta Vītols founded the Vītols Fund to help talented and dedicated young people study at Latvian universities through scholarships.
