On 20 February, President Edgars Rinkēvičs congratulated Māra Lāce, Director of the Latvian National Museum of Art, on the occasion of her jubilee at the Riga Castle.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your outstanding lifetime contribution to the preservation, study and celebration of Latvian art and cultural values and congratulate you on your birthday," said the President of Latvia during the meeting.
Māra Lāce, art historian and long-time director of the Latvian National Museum of Art, was born on 18 February 1954 in Dundaga. In 1979 she graduated from the Department of Art History and Theory at the Art Academy of Latvia. Her career began in 1973 as a research associate at the Latvian National Museum of Art, where she worked until 1979. Later, from 1987 to 1989, she served as the deputy director for scientific work. After the Third Awakening and the restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia, Māra Lāce became the Director of the Latvian National Museum of Art, which is widely regarded as the country's most important visual art institution.
