President of Latvia Egils Levits continued his tradition of congratulating large, active families in various regions and cities of Latvia on Christmas in appreciation of their inspirational impact on others around them through their everyday life, work and achievements and showing that strong families are the building blocks of Latvian State.

President Levits congratulated Behmaņi family from Skrunda region, Dedži family from Talsi region, Baruši family in Vaiņode region, Komisarovi family from Ventspils region, Kokari family in Aizkraukle region, Čeki family from Aknīste region, Pērkoni family in Iecava region, Koroļovi family from Rundāle region, Birzāki family from Līvāni region, Gromovi family from Ludza region, Rimši family from Riebiņi region, Zinkeviči family from Daugavpils, Āboliņi family in Varakļāni region, Ummeri family from Rūjiena region, Miļņi family in Ērgļi region, Plauži family from Beverīna region, Ābeļi family from Salacgrīva region, Lūši family in Ķekava region, Kaļvi family from Ķegums region and Elstiņi family in Aloja region.

This year, to contain the spread of COVID-19, due to nation-wide restrictions imposed upon recommendations of epidemiologists, President Egils Levits had to step away from tradition of inviting families to the Riga Castle for Christmas celebration and had to deliver his greetings straight to homes of families.

Most active large families from all regions, including families that have recently returned to Latvia, were nominated to the Chancery of the President of Latvia by regional governments and administrations of Latvia’s cities.
