during the ceremony marking the centenary of Georgia at the Freedom Square in Tbilisi on Saturday, 26 May 2018.

Raimonds Vējonis noted that, on the eve of its centenary, Georgia should be proud of a progressive constitution and successful democracy with a firm rule of law and parliament, representing the will of the people to live in a free and modern country by respecting human rights and justice. These are the achievements, which one should appreciate and celebrate.

In his turn, while participating the roundtable discussion “Cooperation for Prosperity: Strategy of the Next Century” at the Parliament of Georgia, the President of Latvia emphasised, “Historical ties, common European values, ​​and common interests form a solid foundation for the relations between our countries. Latvia has always supported Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.”

The President also welcomed the progress made by Georgia in the reforming process and stressed that Latvia would continue to support Georgia on its paths to the rule of law and justice. Moreover, Latvia will continue supporting sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

At the end of the day, the President of Latvia will visit the National Youth Palace, where he will attend a performance about the signing of the first Declaration of Independence of Georgia and a gala concert in honour of the centenary of the Republic of Georgia at the Georgian State Opera and Theatre Zakaria Paliashvili.

President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis is paying a working visit to Tbilisi from 25 May to 28 May 2018, where he participates in the ceremonial events to mark the centenary of Georgia.
