“Latvia strongly condemns the acts of terrorism occurred in Brussels today, March 22. Such acts have no justification, and they undermine the core values underlying any democratic society. Unfortunately, this in another reminder in such a short time that terrorism is one of the biggest challenges for security of every country and the entire world in our century and that we must make every effort to fight against it all together,” stated President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis.

The President of Latvia conveyed sincere condolences to the families, relatives, and friends of the deceased persons in Belgium and entire nation of Belgium, and wishes for swift recovery to the persons injured during the tragic events.

“The tragic events in Brussels reaffirm that the decisions we made for strengthening internal and external security are the right steps and that the activity in that direction should be continued,” emphasized Raimonds Vējonis. According to the information provided by the Minister of Interior, the level of terrorism threat remains low in Latvia.
