On 15 October, the second day of President Edgars Rinkēvičs’ working visit to Germany focused on the digitisation of the public sector and the development of the defence industry.
In his opening remarks at one of the largest public digitalisation events in Europe – the exhibition Smart Country Convention 2024, President of Latvia emphasised: "Diversity is an asset for Europe. However, for companies operating in the European Union single market, this frequently results in increased costs. Digital and innovative solutions help to align business processes. Latvia can share its experience in implementing digital solutions that make it easier for both residents and entrepreneurs to receive public services".
President Edgars Rinkēvičs expressed satisfaction that Latvia's status as the main partner country at the Smart Country Convention 2024 provides additional opportunities for Latvian information and communication technology companies to present their products and find new partners in the German market. Digital solutions that are taken for granted in Latvia, such as electronic signatures or online services, present additional export opportunities for Latvian companies.
In a meeting with representatives of the German Defence Industry Association and companies, President of Latvia highlighted Latvia as a suitable place for investments in the security and military industry.
In his bilateral conversation with the German company Diehl Defence, with which Latvia has signed a supply contract for the purchase of the IRIS-T medium-range air defence system, President Rinkēvičs thanked for the cooperation thus far and underscored the importance of the involvement of the Latvian defence industry, thereby also strengthening the security of supply.
