Egils Levits
Valsts prezidents izsaka gandarījumu par LU Cietvielu fizikas institūta devumu Latvijai un pasaulei
Today, President of Latvia Egils Levits visited the University of Latvia Institute of Solid State Physics (ULISSP) to learn more about the recent research activities of the institute and meet with its staff.

In his remarks to the staff of the Institute Egils Levits underlined that he is honoured to meet the scientific elite of Latvia and Europe: ‘Your scientific input at the national, European and global level cannot be overestimated. Your discoveries, your research is absolutely crucial for Latvia because it brings us closer to a high-tech nation.’

Egils Levits pointed out that knowledge and technological excellence are some of the most valuable assets in the modern world, and ULISSP is one of the institutes that creates such excellence, for example, through research into nuclear fusion as a green, carbon-neutral source of energy which may prevent the global energy crisis in future.

President of Latvia also said that he believes that ‘intellectual and economic input of ULISSP makes it a role model for others and Latvia should continue supporting the development of such centres of scientific excellence’.
