President of Latvia: The Cēsis Space Education Centre is a good incentive to encourage young people's interest in STEM subjects

On 12 January President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Space Education Centre in Cēsis to learn about the Centre's approach to stimulating children's and young people's interest in science, engineering, technology and mathematics. 

"It is a great pleasure to see an idea nurtured by the people of Cēsis for almost ten years turn into a reality. The Space Education Centre demonstrates the breadth and diversity of the space industry as well as the career opportunities it offers. I am delighted to see successful cooperation programmes with schools in the region, which strengthen students' knowledge and skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on workshops and experiments. The Cēsis Space Education Centre, alongside science centres in Daugavpils, Liepāja, Ventspils and Rīga, plays a valuable role in promoting children’s interest in science, technology and mathematics from an early age. It is also an “island of inspiration” for many teachers seeking the best ways to make the subjects of science and technology fun and interactive for children. This is also a good incentive for our youth to pursue STEM subjects in secondary school and later at the university level" said President Rinkēvičs after his visit.
