The President of Latvia appreciated the fact that the social partners, business organisations, and experts took part in the development of the tax reform together with the government by creating preconditions for the best possible results of reforming. The Cabinet of Ministers will discuss the tax reform during its meeting next week.
“Now the ruling coalition partners must demonstrate their commitment not only in words but also in deeds. I believe that this is one of the most important reforms in Latvia in 25 years since the restoration of independence. Unjustified delay of the reform would jeopardise confidence of entrepreneurs and public in the state,” stated Raimonds Vējonis.
The President of Latvia outlined that we required the tax reform to stimulate economic activity by creating favourable conditions for business development and thus providing more revenue for the state budget. The reform should contribute to the higher income of the population, especially thinking of families with children and less prosperous people. Reduction of the shadow economy is a very important objective of the tax reform that will be possible only when all the taxpayers act honestly.
