Due to restrictions imposed after the outbreak of Coronavirus disease Covid-19, Egils Levits and Alexander Lukashenko decided to move the visit of President of Belarus to Latvia, scheduled for this April, to an earliest possible future date, which will be arranged by both sides later. President Levits and President Lukashenko also discussed how each of the countries is responding to Covid-19 outbreak to minimise its impact.
According to Egils Levits and Alexander Lukashenko, mutual repatriation assistance between Latvia and Belarus during the Covid-19 crisis is efficient. Belorussian nationals can return home from Latvia, while Latvian nationals can go through Minsk to get back to Latvia.
Presidents of both countries agreed that trade ties between Latvia and Belarus need to be strengthened. One of the focus areas would be transport, which will also be one of the key topics of the planned visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Latvia.
Egils Levits and Alexander Lukashenko also talked about the next year’s IIHF World Championship co-hosted by Minsk and Riga.
