On 28 March, President Edgars Rinkēvičs held a meeting with the Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis at the Riga Castle. The main topic of discussion was Latvia's economic development planning, measures to promote exports and attract investments, and the Ministry of Economics' efforts towards achieving balanced economic development across all regions of Latvia.
The President of Latvia listened to the Minister's vision of Latvia's economic development plan and called for work on both a conceptual document and practical measures that can be quickly implemented to promote opportunities for Latvian entrepreneurs in export markets and attract investment to Latvia's regions.
The President of Latvia and the Minister of Economics exchanged views on the situation in the municipalities of the eastern border and Latgale. President Rinkēvičs brought to the Minister's attention the concerns expressed by entrepreneurs and investors during the President's regional working visits. These concerns were discussed during talks with the heads of Latgale municipalities and entrepreneurs, as well as during a recent working visit to the Saldus region on 22 March this year. "Latvian entrepreneurs and potential investors would appreciate receiving practical and concrete proposals from municipalities or state institutions. It is therefore important to develop a range of specific offers that Latvia and its regions can provide for business development," said E. Rinkēvičs.
The Minister of Economics expressed his vision on the necessary improvements in the strategy of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia for export promotion and attracting foreign investment. The parties also discussed the cooperation between the National Competitiveness Commission established by the President of Latvia and the Ministry of Economics.
