Raimonds Vējonis
Only specific and tangible results of reforming that change daily life will speed up increasing trust of the Moldovan public and international partners in the country, as President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis stressed during the bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Pavel Filip in New York on Tuesday September 20. He congratulated Moldova with the progress already made and noted at the same time that the work on the practical implementation of reforms should be continued.

The meeting took place while both officials participated in the annual session of the UN General Assembly.

The President of Latvia pointed out that the Eastern Partnership Moldova was participating in was among the priorities of the European Union’s foreign policy, whose future largely depended on partners’ achievements in implementing reforms.

“The path of reforming has never been easy, but Latvia has proved that to be achievable itself when becoming a Member State of the EU,” said Raimonds Vējonis. He stated that Moldova was an important partner for Latvia and that an active political dialogue took place between the countries.

While discussing cooperation between Latvia and Moldova, the President of Latvia said that Latvia would continue to support the reforming process in Moldova by sharing its experience in the framework of both development cooperation and contacts among the national authorities and experts from various fields.
