On 6 June, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Minister of Economy Viktors Valainis at the Riga Castle. During the meeting, the parties discussed the activities of the Coordination Council for Large and Strategically Significant Investment Projects, the issue of attracting workforce, the plan on the further development of the national economy developed by the Ministry of Economics, and the situation in the area of access to finance for Latvian entrepreneurs.
The President of Latvia listened to the views and assessment of the Minister of Economy on the first economic debate in the Saeima, which took place on 16 May of this year. The officials discussed the Ministry of Economy's report on the advancement of the Latvian economy and the progress in the implementation of the plan.
"I welcome the Minister's initiative to start a tradition of economic debates in the Saeima. The plan reflects well the overarching strategic directions that we envisage for our country's future development – high productivity, talented people, and sustainability. Documents are undoubtedly essential to ensure that all those involved have clear objectives and directions. Nevertheless, even the most meticulously crafted formulations, if they remain solely on paper, will not solve anything. Tangible action will make the difference. Therefore, it is crucial to first agree on a clear goal, then divide it into smaller tasks, and take action. It is also important to be patient about the result, rather than changing the big goals of economic development every few years," said President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs.
