On 10 February, President Edgars Rinkēvičs participated in the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris, France.

During a panel discussion on privacy, cybersecurity, and the protection of democracy, President Rinkēvičs highlighted the need to strike a balance between the opportunities and potential risks presented by artificial intelligence.

"Artificial intelligence offers both opportunities and risks. Governments must work together with various societal groups to identify risks that could negatively impact democratic processes. It is crucial to ensure the security of critical infrastructure and cyberspace while also strengthening the ability to protect the information space and the public's right to privacy," said E. Rinkēvičs.

The President of Latvia noted that Latvia is adjusting its legal framework and creating a National Artificial Intelligence Centre to promote the responsible use of artificial intelligence. He also acknowledged the significant contribution of the Riga-based NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence in the development of AI tools and the protection of democratic processes.

The President, together with EU heads of state and government, is scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron.
