“It is important that the candidate would have authority among the NAF personnel, that he would have experience of a commander and staff management, as well as international operations,” stressed the President of Latvia by adding that assessment of other skills and knowledge would be of great importance.
The officials also discussed other topical issues in the area of defense and security. Raimonds Vējonis indicated that the Ministry of Defence should be everything required to welcome the Canadian-led multinational NATO battalion next year. The Minister of Defence notified the President of Latvia of other measures as well that were implemented by gradually increasing the defence spending up to 2% of GDP in 2018.
