Raimonds Vējonis
President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis stressed that Latvia appreciated the historical support of the United Kingdom for the establishment of Latvia and for the strengthening security in the region during a meeting with His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex in the Riga Castle today.

 

“It is important that our countries are united both in political and economic cooperation and increasingly close interpersonal relationships, in promotion of which education, culture, and sports are of great significance,” said Raimonds Vējonis.

 

HRH Prince Edward arrived to Latvia in order to present the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. The award is granted to young people, who have achieved success in international youth self-education program “Award”, as well as to promote the program itself and the opportunities and benefits it provides to Latvian youth. Since 2009, former President of Latvia Dr. Vīķe-Freiberga is the patroness of the program “Award”.

 

The President of Latvia informed the guest about the celebrations of the centenary of the state of Latvia in 2018 and invited the representative of to the British royal family to participate in the national holiday of Latvia.
