On 3 April, President Edgars Rinkēvičs held a meeting with Minister of Welfare Uldis Augulis at the Riga Castle. The discussion centered around the state and local government social benefits policy, including the issue of pension indexation, as well as the situation with long-term unemployment in the regions of Latvia.
During their meeting, the President of Latvia brought to the Minister's attention the issues raised during his regional visits. One of the main concerns in municipalities is the quality and accessibility of social services. The discussion also covered employment policy and the measures that the state needs to take to motivate long-term unemployed but employable individuals to return to the labour market.
Additionally, President Rinkēvičs and the Minister of Welfare exchanged views on the Ministry's priorities for the upcoming negotiations on the 2025 state budget.
