On 10 May, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with representatives of state universities councils, nominated by the President of Latvia, at the Riga Castle. The meeting was held to discuss the achievements of the university councils and future priorities in the field of higher education and science.
“To offer students the best and broadest possible knowledge toolkit, universities must adapt and change with the times. This will help to raise the competitiveness of Latvian companies and address pressing challenges facing our society. Young people are seeking diverse learning experiences as well as more interactive and engaging learning methods. Accordingly, the content, form, and teaching methods of study programs must be modern, rigorous, and tailored to each student’s needs and the chosen career," emphasised President E. Rinkēvičs.
The representatives of state university councils presented to the President of Latvia the work and progress achieved to date and provided an overview of their planned work agenda. The parties concurred that it is imperative to attract excellent teaching professionals and researchers with international expertise to Latvian universities. This will enable our students and researchers to acquire a deeper understanding and a more versatile range of experiences, whilst also enhancing the quality of studies.
