On 6 January, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Prosecutor General Juris Stukāns at the Riga Castle. During the meeting, President Rinkēvičs and the Prosecutor General exchanged views on the work results of 2024 and current issues of the Prosecutor's Office.
The meeting covered the necessity of introducing criminal liability for collusion in public procurement. Currently, legal entities can be penalised for collusion as a competition law infringement, however, individuals who orchestrate such actions are not held personally liable. The President of Latvia will raise this issue during his meeting with the Prime Minister, responsible ministers, and during the planned meeting with representatives of the Saeima factions.
