During the meeting, presidents of the two countries agreed that Latvia-Romania bilateral relations are developing successfully on many different levels and emphasised the need to expand the economic cooperation between both countries.
President of Latvia and President of Romania talked about close cooperation and joint positions of the two countries in the framework of the EU and NATO. Klaus Werner Iohannis and Egils Levits discussed the experience of both countries during the presidency of the Council of the EU and a number of key priorities of the EU's agenda, including Brexit, multi-annual financial framework and cooperation with countries of Eastern Partnership. Presidents of the two countries also discussed the forthcoming meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government in London in December of 2019. President Levits and President Iohannis both underlined the need to ensure consistent implementation of the agreements made during the NATO Brussels Summit regarding further development of readiness and mobility of NATO forces. Presidents of Latvia and Romania stressed the importance of unity between allied countries and strong trans-Atlantic bond in safeguarding regional stability and security.
Presidents of both countries praised the successful implementation of the Three Seas Initiative and underlined its potential to boost regional economic cooperation. Better connectivity through infrastructure links, energy supply routes and energy security are the main outcomes of this initiative.
