On 25 April, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Mr Mathias Cormann, Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and his team at the Riga Castle to discuss the latest OECD Economic Survey on Latvia and its recommendations for Latvia's economic development.
During the meeting, the parties paid particular attention to the issues included in the Survey on improving Latvia's investment climate, developing innovation and boosting productivity.
The issue of access to capital for small and medium-sized enterprises was also highlighted as a major concern.
"Latvia highly appreciates the work of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in preparing the Economic Survey. The Survey notes the geopolitical challenges Latvia is currently facing and their impact on the economy. The recommendations made offer clear areas for improvement. On the positive side, they are already in line with the Latvian government's vision in many areas. Latvia has the same opportunities as the other Baltic states. The key word is concrete action. It is my considered opinion that it would be beneficial to divide the implementation of the recommendations into tasks, responsibilities and deadlines," said President Rinkēvičs.
