On 3 June, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens at the residence in Jūrmala to discuss the progress of forming the national budget for 2025 and the work done so far within the tax reform working group. The President of Latvia and the Minister of Finance also discussed the current state of the banking sector, including the persistently low levels of lending activity in Latvia.
President Rinkēvičs noted that open communication with the public on the upcoming changes is crucial during the process of drafting the national budget for 2025: "It is important to recognise that the process of drafting this year's budget will be challenging. Therefore, it is necessary to start communicating openly about the impending changes, especially if they concern the tax system, from an early stage. All stakeholders should also be aware that change will require compromise. The 2025 national budget should prioritize internal and external security, as well as boosting competitiveness through investment in science and skills."
