On 13 March, President Edgars Rinkēvičs held a meeting with the Minister of Education and Science Anda Čakša at the Riga Castle to discuss the Ministry's progress in implementing the school network and new funding model.
The Minister of Education and Science has presented a plan for the gradual implementation of the new school network financing model to the President of Latvia. The plan involves collaboration with municipalities, other responsible ministries, including the Ministry of Transport, and representatives of the education sector.
E. Rinkēvičs highlighted the need for a respectful and open dialogue between Latvian local governments, the Ministry of Education and Science, and representatives of various education sectors, including the Latvian Trade Union of Education and Science Employees. This will ensure that the planned changes and their benefits are properly understood and discussed. The President of Latvia also emphasized the importance of giving more attention to the issue of school quality management.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the potential of artificial intelligence research in Latvian higher education institutions.
