On 23 October, the President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Inga Bērziņa to discuss the future work priorities of the Minister, as well as issues related to local government management and the country's digital infrastructure.
President Rinkēvičs noted: ‘Municipalities face different challenges, so it is important to maintain a dialogue between the government and all municipalities to find tailored solutions and reduce regional inequalities.’
During the meeting, E. Rinkēvičs and I. Bērziņa also discussed other topical issues in municipalities, and the President of Latvia positively assessed the Minister's plans to address the housing issue, as well as the application of municipal infrastructure to the reforms in the field of education put forward by the Government.
I. Bērziņa also briefed the President on the implementation of the Digital Decade programme. President Rinkēvičs invited the Minister to continue the work on the establishment of a modern and efficient digital infrastructure. Coordinated cooperation with other responsible ministries is needed in this area.
