On 17 July, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Minister of Climate and Energy Raimonds Čudars in the Riga Castle to discuss Latvia's readiness for the heating season and other issues related to energy security and achieving climate neutrality goals.
During the meeting, President Rinkēvičs listened to the information provided by the Minister of Climate and Energy on the filling of the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility, discussed the natural gas and wood chips market trends as well as the development of solar and wind energy park projects in Latvia.
The Minister for Climate and Energy informed the President on the progress of the draft Law on Energy Resource Cost Support.
The officials also discussed the next steps for the timely synchronisation of the electricity transmission system of the Baltic states with the continental European grids. E. Rinkēvičs emphasised that coordinated action by the Baltic states is essential for the synchronisation of electricity transmission systems.
