The President of Latvia expressed his support for the proposal of the Minister of Agriculture to discuss at the European Union (EU) level the restriction of Russian grain imports to EU countries, while maintaining transit to third countries in order not to restrict food supplies to the countries of the Global South.
Discussing the current developments in the sector, President Rinkēvičs pointed to the potential for developing higher value-added agricultural products: "During my regional visits, I have seen excellent examples of agricultural companies working to develop higher value-added products that benefit both farmers and consumers, as well as developing the local economy and its diversity."
During the meeting, the President of Latvia also discussed with the Minister of Agriculture the issues previously shared by environmental and nature conservation organisations, as well as representatives of the Latvian Forest Owners' Association and the Latvian Forest Industry Federation. President Rinkēvičs invited the Minister of Agriculture to address these issues in cooperation with other sectoral ministries.
