On 4 September, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Ivars Priede, Latvian Television’s Chairman of the Board. Meeting, which took place in the Riga Castle, focused on public service broadcaster’s position regarding public service broadcaster merger concept and funding model.
According to President Rinkēvičs, Latvian Television is a crucial public media that focuses on agenda important for Latvian people and thus raises the level of awareness in the society. ‘Finding the right way to reach out to different groups of society in the common information and media landscape in Latvia is challenging, let alone creating original content in Latvian,’ President Rinkēvičs said.
During the meeting, President also enquired about Latvian Radio’s position and suggestions with regard to public media merger concept proposed by the National Electronic Mass Media Council.
