“On the Orphans Day, we wish to thank the families, who have found an opportunity to accept the children left without parental care to their home and who have given warmth of their hearts to those children. We also wish to thank the employees of institutions and everyone, who supports the families and children in need,” says President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis.

The President of Latvia and First Lady of Latvia Iveta Vējone have invited foster families, adoptive parents, guardians, their supporters, friends, and representatives of the institutions to a meeting dedicated to the Orphans Day at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 4, in the Riga Castle.

“Every child should be enabled to grow up in a family-oriented environment. On the Orphans Day, we wish to pay attention to all of those almost one and a half thousand children growing up in children’s homes and still waiting for their family,” emphasizes Iveta Vējone.

Notably many foster families are invited to the meeting this year. During the meeting, stories of children and families will be heard; the courage of families, selflessness, and devotion to the benefit of Latvian children will be dignified. Minister of Welfare Jānis Reirs will inform of the ongoing and planned initiatives, while improving the system of state aid and starting work on the establishment of specialized foster families. Bishop of the Latvian Baptist Union Pēteris Sproģis will address the audience.
