When meeting H.E. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Mr Olexandr Mischenko, the President of Latvia has stressed the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, especially the economic cooperation and active political dialogue. Latvia shall continue its full support to territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, the non-recognition policy regarding the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as Ukraine’s progress towards closer cooperation with the European Union (EU) and NATO. Latvia continues to insist on the immediate release of Ukrainian seafarers detained in Kerch Strait. The close cooperation is confirmed by the visit of President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis to Ukraine on 24 and 25 November 2018 when participating in the commemorative event of the Holodomor and visiting the conflict zone in eastern Ukraine.
In a conversation with the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Latvia, H.E. Dr Muhammad Abdul Ghaffar, the parties noted the intention to develop bilateral political dialogue and to continue the work on the signing of a double taxation convention and an air transport agreement. The President of Latvia called for the use of Latvian ports for the provision of logistics services by pointing to Latvia's favourable geographical position and well-developed transit infrastructure. The parties also noted the potential for cooperation in tourism.
In its turn, during the meeting with the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Guyana to Latvia, H.E. Mr Frederick Hamley Case, the President of Latvia appreciated the current state of cooperation between the EU and Latin America, while pointing to opportunities for bilateral cooperation in economics, education, and science.
