Valsts prezidents darbam Latvijā akreditē Gruzijas, Baltkrievijas un Taizemes vēstniekus
On 30 October 2018, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis accredited Ambassadors of Georgia, Belarus, and Thailand to Latvia during a festive ceremony in the Riga Castle.

During the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia Ms Tea Maisuradze, the President of Latvia appreciated the bilateral relations, political dialogue, and the dynamics of economic cooperation between Latvia and Georgia in recent years. During the meeting, the parties noted that a secure, stable, democratic, and economically strong region of the Eastern Partnership in the common interests of both countries. Latvia will continue to support Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia and the reform process in Georgia. Mr Raimonds Vējonis stressed that Latvia would continue to support the territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders. Closer NATO and Georgian cooperation was significant, and Latvia highly appreciates Georgia’s contribution to NATO operations. The countries share the view that cooperation in strategic communication and education must continue. This is a momentous year for Latvia and Georgia, as both countries celebrate their centenary and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

During the conversation with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus Mr Vasiliy Markovich, Mr Raimonds Vējonis thanked for the dynamic development of bilateral co-operation between the two countries. Belarus is the largest foreign trade partner of Latvia among the Eastern Partnership countries, hence constructive cooperation in promoting economic relations is important. There is an intention to develop an ever-closer partnership on transport and transit, cross-border cooperation, the environment, border crossing, and security policy. Latvia and Belarus will jointly organise the World Ice Hockey Championship in 2021, which will provide additional opportunities for closer contacts between our people. The President of Latvia emphasised that Latvia supported the further development of relations between the EU and Belarus.

In its turn, during the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand Mr Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum, the President of Latvia outlined the long-standing relationship between the two countries and welcomed the dialogue that Thailand renewed at the EU level. The development of economic relations, including the trade flow and the potential export of pharmaceutical and mechanical engineering products, is positively evaluated. Latvia is interested in deepening cooperation in the areas of tourism and preferential travelling. It is also important to work together in the areas of transport and logistics while promoting contacts between business operators in ports and aviation sector from both countries.
