During the meeting with the Ambassador of Croatia to Latvia, the President of Latvia outlined the good bilateral relations between the two countries and confirmed Latvia’s interest in strengthening the cooperation within the EU and NATO, as well as within international organisations. President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis noted the last meeting with H.E. President of Croatia Mrs Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović positively during the meeting of the Presidents of the Arraiolos Group in Latvia in 2018, as well as the upcoming official visit of the President of Latvia to Croatia on 27-29 March 2019.
While facilitating economic development, Latvia calls for cooperation in areas of high added value, thus diversifying economic cooperation between the two countries. Therefore, the President of Latvia stressed the potential for cross-sectoral cooperation between Latvian and Croatian companies in bioeconomy, biomedicine, smart technology and engineering, smart energy, and ICT. Similarly, both countries agree that cooperation in defence and culture, and more precisely the preservation of cultural heritage, should be continued.
In his turn, the Ambassador of Croatia emphasised the significance of the Three Seas Initiative and the readiness of Croatia to discuss current issues related to international challenges, the European Union, security policy, including hybrid threats, and relations with Russia and the Balkan region.
