During the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Argentina to the Republic of Latvia Facundo Vila, the President of Latvia stressed that Latvia was interested in developing and expanding trade cooperation with the countries in Latin America, including Argentina, with which Latvia already had good models of cooperation in information technology, electronics, woodworking, and pharmaceuticals. He also called on the Argentinian businesses to use the logistics infrastructure and experience of Latvia for strengthening the bilateral economic relations.
The agreement signed between the European Union and Central American countries in 2012 is a good basis for closer EU-Central America political and economic cooperation, as the President of Latvia stated when meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Honduras to the Republic of Latvia Roberto Ochoa Madrid. Raimonds Vējonis emphasised the potential for cooperation in higher education and science of Latvia in particular and the need to promote mutual understanding between the two countries and mutual knowledge about each other.
During a meeting with the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of Latvia Doan Thi Phuong Dung, the President of Latvia expressed satisfaction that this year marked the 25th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Vietnam. Moreover, he outlined that this was also an opportune time to activate cooperation between the two countries. Vietnam is already the largest foreign trade partner for Latvia in Southeast Asia. The agreement between the EU and Vietnam on signing a free trade agreement, as well as the agreement between Latvia and Vietnam on avoiding double taxation are significant factors for the efficient development of bilateral cooperation. A number of Latvian higher education institutions have showed their interest in cooperating with Vietnam, thus signing a co-operation agreement in higher education and mutual recognition of higher education degrees and qualifications would be an important step in strengthening relations between the two countries.
The President of Latvia invited the Ambassadors to participate and engage in the celebrations of the upcoming centenary of the Republic of Latvia that will be a great opportunity for Latvia to appear on the international arena and promote the rich cultural heritage and new development opportunities of our country.
