During a conversation with representatives of the Latvian Press Publishers Association Guntars Kļavinskis and Māri Ančs today, President of Latvia Egils Levits supported the availability of the press at affordable prices to people throughout Latvia strongly, and that was a constitutional issue. “In my conversation with decision-makers, I will strongly say that this is not a commercial issue, but an issue of a common information space in Latvia and a constitutional issue,” stated Egils Levits.
As previously reported, press publishers have encountered a problem with deliveries of the press, because “Latvijas Pasts” (Latvian Post) has not been granted public funding to offset the deliveries of the press yet.
Egils Levits was interested in the association’s vision for long-term solutions by recognising that the current problem of offsetting the deliveries of the press should be addressed temporarily and a strategic long-term solution should be found in the meantime.
