When addressing the new judge, the President of Latvia has emphasised that society expects changes in the judiciary and clear signals at present that the rule of law and a fair court are not just empty words.
“Changes in the judiciary also begin with every judge. They evaluate our entire judicial system as per commitment and action of every judge. Therefore, I call you to always remember that the judge must be a model and an authority in all areas of our life,” pointed out the President of Latvia.
The law prescribes that every judge gives a solemn oath to the President of Latvia before commencing his or her duties and solemnly promises to be honest and fair, loyal to the Republic of Latvia, always strive for finding out the truth, never betray the truth, and judge in strict accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Latvia.
