On 8 May, President of Latvia Egils Levits attended the wrath laying ceremony marking the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany and commemorating the victims of World War II.
‘8 May 1945 was victory for many European nations, such as Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and many others. But Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia did not become free again. As one occupation rule ended, another one came in its place. On 8 May 1945, the world said, ‘Never again!’ Unfortunately, as we can see this has not come true. We need to stand with Ukraine and defeat the aggressor,’ President of Latvia Egils Levits said after the ceremony.
