The President of Latvia noted that the MPs of the 13th Saeima should implement the things they had promised to the voters and called for working from the very first day in the manner so that one could definitely say that good law was adopted in the public interest. “The public expects you to work selflessly to promote the development of our democratic state and achieve real improvements. No other person will do this work for you,” emphasised Raimonds Vējonis.
“The future of our country and our children is the only interest that you must protect every day. From today on, you will work for the benefit of all the people of Latvia. You represent the whole society in its diversity, not just your constituents,” stated the President of Latvia.
The President of Latvia pointed out that the 13th Saeima had many important tasks that could only be accomplished by joint effort. We must continue investing in strengthening our security and find ways to improve the functioning of the courts. The security of the financial system must be strengthened, and mechanisms for preventing money laundering and terrorist financing need to be improved. It is timely to start work on the development of the largest investment roadmap, National Development Plan after 2020. The President of Latvia expressed his confidence that they agreed on the need to maintain a stable Euro-Atlantic course and to form a balanced state budget.
In conclusion, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis called for remembering the first four years of our country, when parliamentarians set up state authorities and the army on the ruins left after the First World War, adopted the Constitution, and achieved the international recognition of Latvia. “You are the first convocation of the Saeima in the second century of Latvia. May the accomplishments of the founders of our country convince you that you can do a great deal in four years! Use this time to work in favour of our country and the future of our children decently!” outlined Raimonds Vējonis.
